Sham (April 9, 1970 - April 3, 1993) was an American thoroughbred race horse who became known as a three-year-old champion when he led his rivals in 1973, but was overshadowed by his more famous peer, Secretariat. Secretariat was third. In addition to establishing multiple speed records, secretariat set them on a variety of racing surfaces. Laminitis is an incurable disease that affects a horses hooves at the age of 19 and, in his case, claimed his life.
